Our Barker Heritage
My mother was
Margaret June Barker, Born June 22, 1922 in Los Angeles California. She was the
Daughter of Joseph Owen Barker and Leora Clair Easton. She married my father
James Robert Hewitt on December 11, 1938 in Los Angeles, California. Mom and Dad
are pictured on the left. The photo was taken in December 1938 in El Monte
California after they returned from their honey moon camping trip. My
grandparents Joseph Owen Barker and Leora C. Easton are in the Photo below which
was taken in Los Angeles in 1915.
These pages
contain the Barker family history from their early pioneer days in Texas through migration to California. There
have been several historical
accounts of some of these Barkers in many publications emanating out of Texas at
the turn of the century. Most accounts are derived from a book of fiction
written by a "Old Timer" from the Fort Griffin, Texas area who used my
Great Grand father's name as a fictional character in his book, which has
created considerable controversy as to the actual Life and Times of my great
grand father David Henry Barker. I have completed a major research project on
the LIFE AND TIMES OF DAVID HENRY BARKER with the facts to SET THE RECORD
STRAIGHT.
