Welcome to the Home Page of

James R. Hewitt Jr.

As you scroll through these pages you will find many interesting and exciting tales about our ancestors. Click on the link to the left to read their stories. Many of  these pages are  first hand accounts, and documented histories  written by our ancestors and old timers still living.

You will find the stories of our World War II veterans, Civil War veterans and Revolutionary War veterans. There are tales of Indian Captives that have been researched and verified, Old West Lawmen Frontiersman and Texas Pioneers. Old photographs and hand written records gleaned from the public records are also on display here. And for good measure I have thrown in a few accounts of interesting folks not related but who made a significant contribution to the history of our family.

Many researchers have assisted me in compiling  the Information, records and photographs on these pages. Where applicable, I have tried to acknowledge their contribution in my foot notes on the various pages. I have also provided a bibliography of the publications used as resources in gathering this data at the bottom of each page.

My motivation in producing these pages is to share the information that I have discovered or that which was given to me by others, with those who have an interest in these families. As I continue my research I will be updating these pages with the additional information I discover. New documents arrive in my mail box on a daily basis and this site is updated accordingly.

The photo above was taken by my good friend Mark Hess and is of Eagle Rock Located on the North Umpqua River near my home here in Douglas County, Oregon. This is a favorite fishing and vacation spot of the famous writer Zane Gray. The photo on the right was taken by myself and is of my favorite backyard pets and their first born. Hee Haw!
